Sauvie Island, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This and the photos that follow were taken yesterday on Sauvie Island. We had a really nice time wandering about out there. I’d recommend it.
Derelict, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Not sure what the deal was with this building, it was empty, but had these huge rusty pipes coming up out of it toward and then under the road. Went to a couple of big valve type things on the other side of the road. Also don’t know what’s with what looked like some sort of elaborate fish traps crossing this body of water, but all told it made a cool photo.
Little McNary Lake, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
I took this yesterday on Sauvie Island while we were roaming about. I think it’s Little McNary Lake. Not completely sure, but mostly sure.
Ready to Dock, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We’ve had a spectacular President’s Day weekend. It’s the first full weekend where we didn’t have a rental to work on. Woo Hoo! It’s been lovely.
Saturday we stayed home, relaxed, surfed the net, read, watched some Seinfeld, and were pretty mellow.
Yesterday we, including Kev and the pups, went to Sauvie Island to just drive around and explore. Kev drove, we had the ipod plugged in, and we made a few stops to wander, take photographs, and just check out various parts of the island. It was gorgeous out. One of those winter days that teases about the approach of Spring and warmer weather. We saw some cool birds, including a Bald Eagle, and found a few really wonderful places for future hikes (when they open in April after the wildlife birding season is over). We’re excited to go back and explore. We also found a great place to put our kayak in the water. I think loads of good times are to be had this coming summer on Sauvie Island.
Today Karen and I wandered around the city a bit doing some errands, having breakfast out (always a lovely thing to do), visiting family, walking the dogs a little, and shopping for baby gifts. So nice. We just went where we felt like going, did what we felt like doing. Wonderful.
This shot, taken yesterday, is from out sojourn around the island. I’m going to post a few shots from the day yesterday. It was just beautiful out.
Steele, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The Steele Bridge, which carries not only the foot traffic underneath from the Eastbank Esplanade to the West side and Waterfront Park, but it also carries the MAX light rail line as well. It’s an old bridge that’s still very much central to the city. Behind it you can get a small glimpse of the Broadway Bridge, in red.

Painting Lately?, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This is me. Or, my pants to be more exact. These are the pants I wear when we paint. Can you tell? I tend to do a lot of wiping off of fingers and hands on my pants. Makes me look all professional though, yes? I laugh at myself.
Fall, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The leaves are almost done changing and they’ve mostly come down. I took this shot of our favorite tree in our yard. This thing is absolutely gorgeous during the change. Spectacular.
Dusk on the Columbia, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We spent a couple of evenings in the last couple of weeks taking the pups for walks around Cathedral Park. It’s one of our favorite spots to take them and now that Riley is old enough we can go more often. I love this shot as the sun was going down out past the St. Johns Bridge.
Raindrops and Geraniums, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
It was raining yesterday, and it’s raining today. Not really that new for our lovely state this time of year. After all, the rain is part of what makes it so lovely in the first place. I was wandering out in the yard with my camera yesterday and captured this one. I love the geranium trying to open and the water drops all over it.
A storm came through yesterday afternoon while I was at work. This was taken after it started to clear.
Golf, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The conference I just attended started last Sunday out on the golf course. There’s an annual golf tournament connected with this conference. Our team always comes in last, though we have a great time, until this year. We actually came in second to last with a score of 3 over. The winner’s had a score of 2 under, so we weren’t entirely off the mark this year. Very exciting. I was happy just hitting a few good shots. I only golf two or three times a year, the other times besides the conference as practice games for the conference, so it’s not like I’m a regular. I just like driving the golf cart, hanging with my pals, and enjoying an occasional nice shot.
Bend, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The end of last weekend and the beginning of this week I was in Bend, Oregon at a conference. This little stream ran through the property of the hotel. Not a bad view in the morning.
Large Ships Passing, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Out on the river these big daddy ships pass quite frequently. It’s a bit disconcerting when they’re barreling down on you, but as long as you’re out of the channel, they won’t run over you. It just looks, sometimes, like they might.
Morning on the Line, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
I went fishing on the Columbia a couple of days with some friends of ours. Poor Karen couldn’t go. We didn’t catch much, just a couple of sturgeon we couldn’t keep, but it was fun none the less. Talk about peaceful… no wonder so many people spend so much time out on the water. Very relaxing.
Marina, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We wandered around a local park and went on a nature walk there, which happened to take us past this really great marina. The water was so calm and there were great reflections from the boats.

Looking out from the deck at Stan and Connie’s place. A great place to have dinner, if you can get reservations.

Droplets, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The theme for this week’s hunt is hanging. I looked through my stuff and found this one taken in January of this year, right after a good rainstorm. As you might have heard, we’re very familiar with rain here in Oregon. It’s part of what makes it so beautiful here and also why, after a long winter of rain, we appreciate our summer so much. I love taking photographs after it rains, hence this shot, as everything always looks so fresh. There’s something about water, drops, the rain… it’s life, new, and can be incredibly, and simply, beautiful. Like these drops hanging off the bare maple tree.

Morning, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Sunday, the last day, I woke up earlier than I had been and was able to catch the sunrise and the mist out over the lake. It was quiet, and absolutely stunning.
Sunset at Davis Lake, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Our last evening brought us a fantastic dinner of ribs cooked over a fire, cowboy beans heated up on the camp stove, and a beautiful sunset.
Kevin and Karen, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Later on Saturday Karen and Kevin took the kayak back down the river to the lake to explore and paddle around a bit. I think Kev liked it.
Mom and Me, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
On Saturday Mom and I took the kayak for a spin. We went out toward the main body of the lake, then turned around and headed up stream with the intent of taking the kayak back to the camp site. We almost made it, but couldn’t quite get passed the last turn and the last stretch of stream before the camp site. We paddled with all our might, but kept getting pushed backwards and toward the bank by the current. Karen said she could hear us laughing before she saw us. I ended up getting out of the kayak and pulling it the rest of the way to shore, with mom inside paddling to help me along. We had a really great time.
Summer Flowers, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We left our place last Wednesday, July 16, after work at about 6:00 PM and pulled into the Davis Lake campground at about 10:00 PM. Nothing like good music and good company to take a person down the road. We got to Davis Lake, set up our tent, blew up our air mattress, threw in our sleeping bags, and then chatted briefly before heading to bed.
The next morning Don took me out to see this little batch of flowers growing in this old stump in the water. Very pretty.
