Sunset in England. Not bad.
Winter Sunset, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Driving home tonight the sunset was quite pretty. Here’s the best shot I could get with my iphone while I was driving. Yes, I understand there are a lot of things inherently wrong with this statement… driving… iphone… taking photos. I get it and I’m an idiot for even doing it, but look… not bad.
Dusk on the Columbia, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We spent a couple of evenings in the last couple of weeks taking the pups for walks around Cathedral Park. It’s one of our favorite spots to take them and now that Riley is old enough we can go more often. I love this shot as the sun was going down out past the St. Johns Bridge.

Looking out from the deck at Stan and Connie’s place. A great place to have dinner, if you can get reservations.
Bald Eagles, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Sunset our second night at Davis Lake was beautiful and made even more so by the two Bald Eagles sitting watching over the area.
Siwash Rock, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
After we got down to beach level and walked briefly on the beach we then ventured around on the path around the edge of the water. This is a photo of Siwash Rock, a famous rock outcropping along the way.
Looking Out to Sea, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We walked down to the beach from Prospect Point. This was taken as we walked along the path.

Another spot in Stanley Park called Prospect Point. We parked near where I took this one and then went on a mini walk about over the hills, through the woods, on the beach, around the bend, and back over the hill. It was gorgeous, every bit of it.
The Freemont, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
As you move south on N. Mississippi the street slopes down giving you a pretty good view of the Freemont Bridge, known to locals as The Freemont, and also, looking left, if you could, from the left edge of this photo, of downtown Portland over across the river.
Gangway, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Since I was so late in posting last week’s photo, scroll down and you’ll see that it’s there, I wanted to get a jump on it this week.
The theme for the week is Metal. I took this one near the end of the year last year. This gangway is fairly new and goes down to the public docks on the Columbia River. It was sunset and the pink in the sky and reflected in the water was lovely. It made a nice contrast to the metal of the gangway.

The hills surrounding Lake Mead aren’t covered with trees and green and seem a bit barren, but they are still beautiful, especially in the light at sunset.

The sun was starting to go down at Lake Mead on January 1 and the light was getting really nice.

I’ve recently been trying to add all the pictures from my laptop to flickr. In doing so I’ve run across some cool and some strange photos. This particular one is a favorite of mine… I took it with the camera on my phone while I was driving over Cornelius Pass (those familiar with the Portland are will know what’s often referred to as Corn Pass). There’s something about it… the light, the sky, the way the truck looks against it. I love this one.
I’ve created a few sets at my flickr site, the newest of which is called Quirky. This shot definitely fits. You can find all my photos at flickr by scrolling down my page and clicking on the flickr strip you’ll see there… or you can just click on any one of the photos on my blog and you’ll be whisked there as well.

The sky was filled with pink this evening. What can I say, it was absolutely beautiful.

I was driving home tonight just holding the camera up and shooting without looking through the eye piece. This actually didn’t turn out that bad for the ol’ point and shoot method. I like it.

Yesterday, October 27, 2007, we drove to Salem to take mom her annual treat of brownies and mocha almond fudge ice cream. I’ve done this every year for 9 years. It’s the yearly anniversary celebration of the date mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Why that date you ask? Because that’s the day life changed, and I like to help mom celebrate that here we are, 9 years later, and she’s OK… life is good. I love you mom.

The Wednesday before we ventured off to Barcelona we took a little trip out to Morecambe, the town close to Lancaster that’s on Morecambe Bay. The thing with Morecambe is that is used to be a very hip happening and busy seaside town. People went there to vacation and hang out. But when travel between countries became a bit easier in Europe, the people who used to go to Morecambe on holiday now go to places with warmer climates, like Spain. Consequently, Morecambe has become a bit of a ghost town. There are still people living there, and there’s an effort right now to revitalise it, but so far they haven’t been able to pull in the crowds.
Another thing about Morecambe, and really more about Morecambe Bay, is that there’s quicksand. There are times when the tide goes out and you can walk across the bay, but only with a guide. The authorities don’t allow people to walk across alone because of the quicksand. Kind of cool, yet creepy. I saw a documentary short about the phenomena once that was pretty fascinating. It would be cool to do, walk across. Maybe next time.

This is the spot we went for a beer this evening. Great beer. It was a fairly dark ale (I asked for their darkest) called Hard Willie. It was possibly the best ale I’ve had.
