The painted addition. It looks like the rest of the house. Yeah. Getting there… yes, we are.
The bowl on the floor is for the dogs. It’s a little bowl of water. Yeah… we are lame. But what can we say… they love having it in the bathroom, easily accessible at night. Since this photo was taken it’s actually been moved to under the bay window next to the tub, out of the walking path. Better spot, and they still love it.

Our construction left us with a new wall in our bedroom. We decided to paint the new wall a burgundy-ish color. We like it very much. We also like the built in for the TV and other do-dads. Don’t you just love the word do-dads? Or is that two words. Hmmmm….
And that folks is what you call a bad pun. I’m being punny again. I should stop.
Our bathroom addition is coming along. Tub, toilet, sink, lighting, fan, closet shelving, and shower all done. Or, mostly done. I actually took a shower in there this morning. Woo Hoo!! I have taken some pics, but not uploaded them yet. When I do I’ll post some. All that’s left… finish the siding, window and door trim, crown, baseboard, solatube in closet, uh… oh, backsplash on the sink, hanging up the mirrow above the sink… and, well… I think that’s it. Yeah. Happy dance time. Or almost anyway. It’s been a long road, but it’s totally worth it.
Since I’ve been somewhat remiss in posting the last week or so I thought I’d throw out a few posts on the addition project to get everyone up to date. So here we go…
Kev hard at work starting the siding process. This was last weekend. Big window in the bay was still not in, most of the siding hadn’t happened yet. We’re still not done with siding, but it’s closer.
Looking from the bay into the bathroom. Walk in closet on the left that will have a pocket door. Shower on the right with the window in it. The red and blue “pipe” are the water lines. You can see one of the cadet heaters in the closet wall. There will be another over on the wall under the window to the backyard.
OK, the last photo I posted wasn’t the last in this long line. This one will be. Here you can see where the sink will be, to the left in the photo, and part of the walk in closet to the right. At the back in this photo is a black wall. That happens to be the current wall to our bedroom. Shnazzy!!
Only one slightly big faux pas today, other than the fact that the holes in our new sink (which we love by the way) aren’t quite big enough, because of the ceramic, to fit our new faucets. They are the faucets that were suggested to go with the sink. They ALMOST fit. Almost isn’t exactly good enough. Also… we were only sent one shower head and two were on the invoice. Karen is on the case. In both instances, with both places. She will prevail. The one faux pas I mentioned…. is me.
The crate delivery of tub, tub pedestal, vanity, and hardware came as scheduled. Only, they wouldn’t deliver it up the driveway because we live in a rural area? Huh? Whatever. So we improvised. We enlisted the assistance of Mom and Don and their truck. Between that, our truck, and the physical labor of Mom, Don, our plumber Brian, and the two of us, we got them up the driveway. With one casualty. Me. We had everything loaded. Mom and Don took off up the driveway with their big crate containing the tub. Karen and I had the vanity and the ceramic sink topper. I jumped into the back of the truck… sort of sitting on the side. She took off up the driveway, had to shift and speed up and turned and… well… I fell off. Backwards, head first. I started to go and somehow had the sense to know, and luck enough to get my body twisted around so that I was able to grab the side of the truck. My feet and body kept going out, twisting in a strange way, but my head didn’t hit first. I ended up sort of being dragged for a little bit until I decided to let go so I wouldn’t be run over. I let go and sort of tried to fling myself away from the truck, rolling as I did. Karen, who only saw this part of the whole ordeal, said I looked like some sort of stunt woman. Too funny. My biggest stunt… not getting a knot on my noggin. The rest of me… it hasn’t faired so well. Bruised, battered, and sore I sit before the screen here. But, nothing is broken. Not even my pride. We’ve had a good laugh about it. Now I’m going to go get in the hot tub….
This bad boy is like 6 feet something by 6 feet 9 inches and something. It’s huge. So huge we won’t have to have a door. Two separately controlled shower heads with valves right inside the door on each side so you can turn it on without getting in and a hand held shower head by a built in bench. It also has it’s own window. I’m cracking up. Is this REALLY our bathroom? Is this REALLY our shower? Yep. chuckle chuckle and he he he It is.
When you remodel things come up. Like the discussion about whether or not we should re-roof the entire house when the addition was roofed. Decision… re-roof. It was 15 years old. We decided it would be best to have it all be the same age. It took them one day to tear off the old roof and stack the new roofing material on top of the old roof in preparation for putting it on. These guys work fast.
That’s all I have to say…. sort of.
My oh my have we been in the soup lately. I don’t know when we had a day off recently. I mean… a day off. No work, no play away from our house, nothing but relaxin’ at the abode. I can’t remember. That’s bad.
I was sitting here thinking about our week so far and our week ahead. ha ha ha ha!! I just drew a blank on what we did Monday. What did we do? Two days ago. We went somewhere. Did we? If we were with you, don’t be offended, it’s not that you’re not important to me, it’s that my brain is full. (Oh, just remembered, right before hitting the publish button… we didn’t go anywhere. Maggie came over and we made dinner and hung out. We did a vehicle exchange so we could take Maggie’s rig to the tire place for her Tuesday morning… yeah, that’s it. Sorry Maggie… I had a moment. Those squash patties were awesome by the way!)
I do know what we did last night. We went for a bike ride with some friends along Waterfront Park and the East Bank Esplanade. We crossed the Hawthorne and Steele bridges and stopped for some bento, yakisoba, and greek food at Riverplace. A great night. We are in training for the Providence Bridge Pedal on Sunday. In training… now that’s funny. We are so out of shape that what we pedaled last night was nothing compared to what we are supposed to pedal on Sunday. If we make it we will have to celebrate big time, if we can walk that is.
Tonight… I believe there’s a birthday get together for Don. Happy birthday Don! Tomorrow… we talked about going on another bike ride. We’ll see. Friday night… ah, Friday. I think, maybe we have nothing planned. Saturday an antique show/fair in Aurora. Sunday… Bridge Pedal.
Plus, the whole time all this is happening our bathroom addition is getting built. Framing is now done. Roof on today (they are re-roofing our existing house and roofing our new addition) and rough plumbing starting today as well. Kev put in the top of the sun tunnel that will be in our walk in closet last night. Karen is hauling another load to the dump this morning. Our tub, vanity, and other misc. stuff is getting delivered some time today between 10 and 2 (I have to run home when it happens to help unload… long story that involves curbside only delivery… ugh! Big crates dropped at the bottom of our long driveway… ridiculous) and the shower head, valves, etc. are also supposed to get delivered today. Karen is calling gutter people to get estimates. Kev is calling sheet rock and insulation places to get estimates. Electrician will start next week on rough electrical. Kev will put on the siding some time in the next while. It’s quite the production.
We need a vacation…
Next step in the remodeling process… which happened yesterday, was the start of the framing. These guys have been working in this heat. Granted they are getting to our place early in the morning… like 6:30, but they are still working in it until 2:00 or so every day. I don’t think I could do it. Wow.
In this photo you can see the framing in of the small rectangular window on the wall behind the ladder. That’s the window in the shower. The window on the wall to the right is the one that will be near the toilet. The bay window will be on the wall that isn’t framed yet in this picture. Pretty cool to be able to really see where things will be.
