February Snow, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This looks like several pictures I’ve taken so far this winter. Same snow, different day. When I got home today it was still there. White. Covering everything. I’m whining aren’t I?

Anyone tired of all the snow besides me? I’m sick of it. Sick and tired. I can’t take it anymore. I think I’m going to go insane. … not really. I won’t really go insane from looking at snow. Seriously though… we have had snow since December 14. With no break. Granted, at times it’s just been this left over pile that won’t melt, but still. There it’s been… the pile. Taunting us. I want sun and warmth. I want to wear t-shirts and shorts, or at least start wearing flip flops. These are simple things. Simple wants. I’m not asking much…. am I?
Here We Go Again, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Yep… it snowed. Again. We still had a snow pile left over from the last time. Ah well… I guess Oregon has just joined the ranks of the East Coast winter club. Snow… cold… snow… and uh, oh yeah, more snow.
It is beautiful though. I have to admit. And… we’re going out anyway. Thor, as our car is now known after the last storm, can handle a mere couple of inches of snow. Besides… it’s already melting. I’m just whining… a little. Slightly. A small whine.

Looking up, standing in the back yard, Christmas afternoon.
Frosted, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Later in the day, Christmas Day, the sun popped out for a bit. I wandered around outside taking some pictures. This is the front of our house. Looks like a large frosted cake.
Christmas Day, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
I know I’m out of order here, but I realized I hadn’t posted any photos from Christmas Day. I took this one in the morning that day. It was snowing again like mad. We probably got another 3 or 4 inches… at least. It was crazy.

It’s getting a little old now, but still… how can you look at this and not think… how beautiful. It’s just gorgeous out.

Well… still snowing. The bad news…. we still can’t drive out. The good news… Mary and Martin braved the trek to Fred Meyer to replenish supplies and Stacia came as far as our driveway with two six packs of beer and another two six packs of root beer. Nectar of the gods to be sure. We were without power for about seven hours today. No problem as we cranked up the wood stove, used water we’d collected in the tub to flush the toilet, and cooked crumpets, rumpets, and bagels on the stove top.
Now… the power is back on and everyone is surfing on their individual laptops or computers. It’s snowing. It’s quiet. It’s kinda cozy.

Mr. Winter earlier today… a bit more buried than before.
Trapped, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Day Eight…. We’ve been able to get out twice. Once early in the week and once, briefly, on Thursday. Thank goodness for that. Since then we’ve been unable to leave our house. The promised relief in the forecast keeps getting pushed back. We watch the news and check weather dot com incessantly hoping for a change, for warmer weather, for what looks like an opportunity to leave.
Don’t get me wrong…
It’s not that we don’t like each other… we really do. Thank goodness. We probably couldn’t be stuck with any better people than we are, but this has gone too far. We want out. We want to leave. We are getting silly. Playing games, surfing the net, cooking, making brownies and cakes, and venturing outside. Very nice… we’ll do it all again tomorrow.
Karen and I took a stroll down to the road earlier. The snow cascading over our boots (knee high Sorrel’s) in places. Us crunching through the layer of ice covering the top of the snow, which has since been itself covered with a couple more inches of snow.
Will it ever end? We are trying to plan our trip to England in May now thinking we could all still be here, hoping to get out and to the UK at that time. LOL Not really… but man… snow bound is an apt term.
Hello? Anyone? Anyone?
A Night of Snow, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Just took this and a few others a moment ago out the front door. The little thing that looks like ET in a weird hat is what remains of Martin’s snowman, Mr. Winter. He looks cold. Cold and sad.
What Was an Evergreen Shrub, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This was taken earlier today from our front door. Not the night photos I mentioned in the last post that I’ll be getting up after I upload. This plant is barely distinguishable.
Out The Back Door, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This was taken today, out the back door. It’s a bit dark, but then the day has been dark and snowy all day. It’s still coming down like mad out there tonight. I just took some photos out the front door and will post those later after I get them uploaded.
Mr. Winter, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The snowman Martin built on our front deck. He sacrificed his new hat, briefly, to the effort. That and the pups bully stix. All items now recovered and returned to their rightful owners. Poor Mr. Winter is now suffering from a very cold head, has no arms, and no scarf. Sad. Sad poor Mr. Winter.
Snow Dog, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Weston is a true snow dog. He’s not big, but he doesn’t seem to notice it much. He just leaps through like a trooper. Riley, on the other hand, isn’t a big fan. She’s just too small to make it work. She can’t even walk in the yard right now, it’s over her head. Weston is head deep.
Break in the Clouds, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We had a break in the weather yesterday, as I mentioned, and there were moments when actual blue sky broke through. When that happened the sun made the snow sparkle.
Crowned, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The snow was piling up big time and still is today. Yesterday I was able to walk around during a break in the snow fall and take a few photos. Martin walked with me and took his own as well. After this Martin started building a snowman. Pictures of Mr. Winter to follow.
Cutting Down The Tree, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Martin cutting down the Christmas Tree on our neighbors property. Doug is the best to let us get a tree. He used to have a Christmas Tree farm there and has long since given it up, but there were still some great trees there for the picking. This being one of them. Martin did a fabulous job cutting it down especially since it was his first try at it. Well done Martin. Mary and I carried it back to the house after it was cut down and the kids decorated it, and the house.
Let it Snow, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
I took this photo yesterday. We were at half a foot then. That was before the big storm started rolling in. Now it’s Saturday and we’re in the midst of it. Snow coming down like mad all day. We could end up with a foot of snow here by the time it stops. Then the freezing rain is supposed to come in. It’s gorgeous though. We’ve never had this much snow here. Amazing.
Our neighbor, Doug, came by this morning offering to give us some wood for the woodstove. We have enough for a couple of days so we declined. He’s such a sweet guy. He’s the one who let us cut a Christmas tree down on his property because we couldn’t get out to a tree farm to cut one down. We gave him Karen’s home made plum jam. We will have to get a basket of things together for he and his wife. He’s a sweetheart.
Winter Wonderland, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
It started out Sunday afternoon/evening and continued Monday with about 4-6 inches of snow falling at our place. We were worried Mary and Martin wouldn’t be able to get here, or us to go get them, from the airport Monday night. We didn’t even try. We paid for a car service to pick them up and bring them out with their big SUV equipped to deal with the weather. It was a great decision. They got here safe and sound and we didn’t have to risk life and limb, both ours and theirs, to go get them.
I took this shot standing in our backyard on Monday. The sky was such a beautiful color blue.
