Potato Oven, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.

Mostly we ate at Vicki and Sandy’s cabin. Sort of cheesy as camping goes, but easy. One night, however, we decided we needed to cook at our campsite. The menu… baked potatoes, in the fire, steak cooked on the fire, and corn on the cob, also cooked on the fire. The gnats were gnasty… LOL… but it was a great tasting meal. Add a beer and it was down right splendid.

This stove was a work horse during our power outage. We were so thankful we had it, and that we had wood to burn. We were very warm and cozy Christmas Day. Not only that, it worked great as a cook surface. Nothing like hot dogs cooked on top of a wood stove to stave off Christmas hunger.

Sparks, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.

I put the camera on a tripod and shot a few. In this one you can see spark trails coming up out of the fire. Mary, to the right, is blurry because she was moving. I actually asked them all to sit still and took one after this shot. It turned out really well. Fantastic actually. In this one, as well as in the other, you can actually see some stars up in the sky. Very cool.

Almost Ready for Roasting, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.

Last night we built a fire in the fire pit, gathered around it, roasted marshmallows, and made s’mores. It was the perfect night for it. We stayed out until about 1 a.m. Who knew it was that late. It was great though… the marshmallows were tasty and the star gazing terrific. We were even able to spy a couple of shooting stars. I love our house.

Flame Broiled, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.

We went to a barbecue on Saturday at my nephew’s place. He’s a great cook, though the barbecue wasn’t cooperating with him. Setting on low and it still kept flaming out. Ah well, the chicken was spectacular. As was everything else he made. Thanks Sean. Yum! And a very happy birthday to Hayden. You look great, even though you are older than I am. Two years older, but who’s counting.

Weston was a bit traumatized by his interaction with the other dogs. He’s good one on one, but when there’s a crowd I think he gets a bit overwhelmed. He spent a lot of time in our laps, and the lap of anyone else who would let him up. He liked watching the other dogs, he just wasn’t sure he wanted to play with them all. Later he had a chance to be one on one and he had a splendid time chasing, etc. I think we need to socialize him a tad more. Looks like a visit to the dog park is in his future, though I think we’ll take him to the small/timid dog area to start. Work him up to the big dog area. Yeah, he’d probably prefer it that way….
