We went for a stroll today at the pups favorite park… not sure if it’s really their favorite park or we just imagine it to be since it’s fairly close to our place and they always seem to have a good time when they’re there. Either way, and makes no never mind, they always enjoy it and we do too. I’ve taken hundreds of photos there, though most of the time I do it with the digital SLR. Today, however, I decided to walk on the wild side and not take the big camera with me. I left it in the trunk. I decided to concentrate on the pups and on talking to my sweetie. It was time very well spent. I enjoyed the heck out of it. Though, as you can see by the posted photo here, I managed to squeeze in a few pics with my iphone. I can’t help myself. Again I’ll say, like in the Sixth Sense, but not, I see photographs.
Before we found ourselves at Cathedral Park we’d ventured over to the SE side to try and find a flag pole. Yes… we need a flag pole. We have a flag pole fastener fastened to the house, it just doesn’t have a pole. And now we have flags. That’s plural on the flags. They are Tibetan peace flags. I got them for my birthday, last September, and we haven’t put them up yet. Granted, we were heading into late fall and early winter at that point and who wants to put up flags that will be tormented by snow, sleet, rain, and this year, more snow. So we waited. But now it’s spring and we need a pole so we can finally get those flags up. Alas… the flag place was closed. Seems they don’t operate on Sundays. Bummer. Luckily for us the trip wasn’t in vain… or is that in vein… one never knows for sure. Again, I digress… the trip wasn’t for naught. There was a Japanese place right across the street we’d passed so many times and said to ourselves most times… we should try that place. Today, thanks to the closed flag place and our drive there, was the day. And it was pretty darn good. Tempura, teriyaki chicken and gyoza. Yum. The walk at the park afterward was nice. It always feels good to walk after a big meal.

I’ve been messing around a lot with tone and color. This one was tweaked slightly toward the antiqued version of it’s former self.

We went to the Home Show today. Two and a half hours of walking around, getting overwhelmed, and grabbing pamphlets. It was fun… tiring, but fun. Afterwards we headed to Noah’s Bagels on 23rd for a bagel dog. If you haven’t had one, try it. I’d recommend the asiago bagel dog. Tasty.
Following the show and the eats we went to Cathedral Park, once again, to walk the pups. They deserved it after being such good sports about spending some time in the car. We kept promising them… don’t worry, you’ll get a walk. We didn’t disappoint. Cathedral Park is a favorite spot for them… loads of good smells and such. Very entertaining if you’re a dog, and not too bad if you’re a human either. We all had a good time.
I took this shot standing under the St. Johns Bridge. I think I’ve taken loads of photographs of this bridge. I never seem to get tired of it.

Hawthorne, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This week’s hunt is all about bridges. I have taken, recently, to walking along the Eastbank Esplanade, downtown Portland, Oregon. It’s a great place to take the dogs for a walk. One of Portland’s nicknames is bridgetown. 10 bridges cross the Willamette and Columbia Rivers within city limits. Pretty impressive. The Hawthorne, pictured here, is one of my favorites.
I haven’t been in the hunt for awhile now. Too busy with life stuff I guess to be at the computer much more than to just load photos onto flickr, blog a word or two, and then get up to do other things. In the interim I’ve been through the holidays, had three feet of snow at the house, had no power during those times on three separate occasions… the last time it took the power guys 5 days to fix it and that was because they couldn’t get up the road until the snow plows made it out here. I live in the woods, it took them awhile, but actually it was faster than I thought it might be. I’ve also finished work on the rental project we were up to. It’s our second. It was a bear. Much more work than expected. Means that since October I’ve basically had two jobs. My day job, and then the night and weekend job of painting and mudding and taping and hammering and the like. It’s over now. Woo Hoo! And it’s rented. Now, thanks goodness, it’s sort of life returning to normal… LOL Whatever that is.

Weston and Riley were not big fans of this section of the walk. Something about the surface under this little bridge type thing really freaked them out. Weston ended up making it, and Riley did most of it without being carried, but it was harrowing for them. Maybe it was the loud clacking sound it made when bicyclists rode by.

You get some really good views of the city, the river, and the bridges by strolling the eastbank esplanade. I highly recommend it. Or, if you don’t feel like strolling, bike it. Really good for either.

It was so lovely walking yesterday. Afterward we went to Maggie’s for a lovely dinner and a viewing of the movie Mama Mia. If you haven’t seen it, do. It was one of those feel good films. All fun. Oh, and dinner was especially tasty as well. Thanks Maggie. You rock.

We went for a walk yesterday along the Eastbank Esplanade. The weather was perfect, the company sublime, and the sights absolutely gorgeous. But then… I love this city.

Devil’s Bridge – Kirkby, U.K., originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Wow, I’m actually posting this on Saturday, the day I’m supposed to be posting the photo hunt photo for the week. I’m impressed with myself. Especially considering that I’ve been very late in posting the last few weeks. Luckily I remembered today was Saturday.
Today’s theme… supported. I took this one last September during our trip to England. This is the Devil’s Bridge in Kirkby/Lonsdale. Both of the roads crossing these bridges are supported by the arches. In bridge building it has to be just so or the whole thing becomes disastrous. The Devil’s Bridge arch obviously works as it’s stood the test of time. The bridge dates back to around 1370.

As you move south on N. Mississippi the street slopes down giving you a pretty good view of the Freemont Bridge, known to locals as The Freemont, and also, looking left, if you could, from the left edge of this photo, of downtown Portland over across the river.

Coast Radio dot org picked one of my photos, yet again, as their photo of the day. How cool is that? I get so pumped when this happens. No money, no fame… just a very cool feeling that someone liked one of my shots. Most excellent!

Lastly, from our walk in Cathedral Park yesterday with Weston, a picture of a really nice piece of driftwood. The driftwood on the beaches at the park is amazing. Just huge and tons of it. Really interesting looking.

We love this park and always seem to find ourselves here when we go to take Weston for a walk. The light yesterday was spectacular. I love this time of year.
The Delaware, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We walked down to the Delaware River. We’d actually crossed it our first night in town, accidentally, just like Washington (though not in a boat). In the distance, in this photo, is the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. At the time it was built, in the 20′s, it was the longest single span in the world. Even though it’s lost that title, it’s still impressive, and beautiful. From the spot we were standing when I took this, pivoting to the right just outside of the shot, is an open air ice rink. It had just opened when we showed up here and people were happily skating around to piped music. What a cool thing.

Also love this one, which was taken with the phone camera as well. I need to remember to bring the actual camera with me, though this didn’t turn out so bad. It has a great fall Northwest feel. It wasn’t taken this year, it was actually taken two years ago.

We spent Saturday afternoon wandering around Cathedral Park enjoying a beautiful fall day. I took loads of pictures, this being one of them. There’s really nothing like walking around with Karen by the water, lovely bridge, beautiful park, leaves falling, sipping on a chai, air crisp… all with our little man, Weston, in tow. He had a great time chasing geese, he never even got close to one, and sniffing everything in sight. It was a very good afternoon.
