I took so many shots of the bald eagle. There were some as it was taking off, but sadly none turned out clear. This was the only one of it in flight that sort of worked. I like it.

This heron found a great perch. Fun to see it fly in and land.

This bird kept looking down at the water. So fun to just watch it. We were worried it would consider the dogs as prey. After all, they are small enough to be an option for it. They must have been too camp nasty to look tasty.

So the amazing thing was Karen, I, and the dogs went for a little walk along the creek, walked around a bend, and there, in the middle of a marshy area was this bald eagle. Really amazing. I can’t do it justice, still cursing under my breath that I need a bigger lens. But I managed to get a few shots that were OK. So cool to see one that close to us. What fantastic creatures they are.
Evening on The Columbia, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Sun setting, Columbia River, Osprey… there’s nothing better than that.

I took this photo yesterday. Yes, there is a Bald Eagle in this photograph. Really. Look closely. Sadly, by the time I got in the clear it took off. Seems it was a bit camera shy.

Winter, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
I like this one. Simple and pretty plain though it might be, it says it all about a lovely winter day. Crisp blue sky, trees with no leaves, and a bird flying above.

Sunset our second night at Davis Lake was beautiful and made even more so by the two Bald Eagles sitting watching over the area.

Loads of birds nest and make their homes near the tide pools at Yaquina Head in Newport, Oregon.
Taking Off, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
While in Newport we drove out to the Yaquina Head Lighthouse and then wandered down to the cool basalt beach there.

We’ve had a pretty good weekend. The weather’s been absolutely beautiful, Kert started working on our rental house (thanks Kert), we cleaned up a bit around our house, we took the boy for a nice walk yesterday, bought ice cream cones, and we’ve had some time to just relax and be at home. Everything a person could want from a weekend with the exception of having a longer weekend.
Right now we’re watching the Academy Awards (loved the song Falling Slowly from the movie Once), the boy is chewing contentedly on his bully stick, and it’s still not even eight o’clock. Right on. And again I’ll say… life is good.

January 1, Lake Mead, Nevada… this guy was hanging overhead trying to take the right moment to swoop in and grab some of the bread we were feeding to the fish at the docks.
