Out For A Walk, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The dogs love going for walks. So much to smell, so much to see, people to greet (and bark at depending on which dog you are), loads of stuff to pee on. It’s a grand grand thing going for a walk is.
What Hydrants Are Made For, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This is how Weston always throws out his patella. He stretches too far and pop, it’s out. Luckily he’s pretty good about knowing how to get it back into place. We’ve only had to pop it in a couple of times for him. I can’t do it, Karen has to. The vet showed her/us how, but I admit I’m too much of a wimp to do it.
Hunting Chipmunks, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The mighty chipmunk hunters in action. Sticking their heads in the very hole those pesky chipmunks were sticking their heads out of a second ago.
It’s Here Somewhere… I Know It!, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Weston loves to chase chipmunks when we go camping. He always corners them under someone’s car. It’s cute. His tale, all curled forward like that, and him down on his front paws is called play stance. He was in it a lot at Davis.
What’s Over There?, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This is Weston at Hondo Dog Park looking through the fence over to where the big dog area is. He might have been fancying himself as a big dog, but he’d never make it over there. He loves big dogs, but when he’s with them he spends most of his time laying down being submissive to them. He’s no fool.
Peeking, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Weston has been to Hondo a few times. Most of the time he’s sort of been like the little kid who is so shy they stand on the sidelines, waiting to be noticed or picked. We always sort of felt bad for him and tried to encourage him to get out there and play. This time, finally, he did that, even if it was just a little bit. He chased, he sniffed, he ran around with some of the other dogs. He didn’t do it tons, but he did it. Our little boy is growing up. Yeah, OK, he did still spend a lot of time jumping up into people’s laps. He’s like that. It’s how he rolls. He prefers the loves he can get from people more than the friendship he can get from fellow dogs. Ah well… lover, not fighter. We’re OK with that. And… so is he.
I’m ready… we have a plan. We are starting to prepare to be away. I’ve been doing it at work now for two days. Uh, maybe a day and a half if I’m honest, since today I’ve managed to do practically nothing of importance so far. But, I’m preparing. And now this process begins at home. How you ask? What are we, two girls on the go, doing to prepare to be in the United Kingdom for two weeks? We are shopping… of course. Mostly, sad to say, or maybe not if you’re a dog lover, for the dogs. We have to supply-up for them. Bones, bully stix, stuff to make their food, kibble, etc. Gotta set them and Kev up for as smooth a couple weeks as possible. We already feel guilty just looking at their cute little faces. We see it in their eyes. They know. They know we’re leaving them. The already feel abandoned. They are already sad. Or possibly, perhaps, we’re projecting our guilt over leaving them onto them. Geez… we’re not even Catholic… or yenta’s… or uh, any of those other famously known institutions for guilt. I need a moment…
OK… moment over. We’re shopping. We’re trimming grass and cleaning. We’re getting ready to go… woo hoo! England and Scotland, here we come! I think I’ve momentarily gotten over my puppy guilt, which comes in waves, and excitement is taking over… I’ll enjoy it while I can!! Yippee!!! It’s almost time to go!
Life Behind Bars, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Here they are… Kev is right, all they need are tin cups to bang against the bars and the picture would be complete. They do love being able to go outside at will however. They just don’t like it when one of us is on “the outside”.
The Gang’s Almost All Here, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We had a terrific time on Sunday with our pals and all the pups. Thanks guys for a really nice time. Not to mention the after hike lunch at the St. Johns McMenamins Pub. Tasty. Nothing says healthy more than following up a physical fitness activity like enjoying a burger and a strawberry lemonade at the pub.
We ended the weekend with some weed pulling at the house. They have somehow taken over all of our flower beds. They must be thwarted. They must be vanquished. They must be… well… pulled. So we started that process in the big bed. And let me tell ya… it’s a process. But damn… our place is looking lovely right now. And again I’ll say… we are lucky. In so many ways.
As to the photo above… you can see Benny’s paw in the shot… we were only missing Weston and Riley’s and it would’ve been perfect. Maybe next time?
What’s He Doing Anyway?, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Weston watching Benny demolish a stick. The big guy played really well with our little dude and dudette. They were friends all around.
Little Buddy, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Here’s the handsome Weston, or as I seem to refer to him lately, bud… or even more accurately, fuzzy. He gets his hair cut next week. He’s going to be happy about it I think. He’s been a little too hot during all our running around. He’s loved it, the running around that is, but it’s been a little too warm for him what with all his fuzziness.
Weston’s Chair, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Weston loves to hang out in this chair. I took this one yesterday. You can see he’s got quite the comfy spot. He loves it. It’s cozy, plus he can see outside. Pretty awesome.
Hanging Out, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Riley loves to hang out the window when we drive anywhere. Weston does as well, but she is a full body girl. We have to hold onto her collar to make sure she stays safe. It was raining pretty good on Sunday, the day we drove home from the beach, and still she wanted to get her head out there. It’s hard to make out, but those are Weston’s feet standing in front of her. I was inside, somewhere, getting something. The little family was waiting for me to come back out to them.
Relief, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
I know this isn’t exactly probably very politically correct, but I had to post a shot of how Weston spends much of his time while on walks. He’s a boy dog… boy dogs like to mark. There’s not a log, or tree, or rock he passes without having to leave his mark… so to speak. Even when he has no mark to leave he tries to leave it. It’s kind of funny. He thinks he’s a stud… and, well… he is.
Pups as Art, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We went to the park, Cathedral Park, on Sunday. The pups enjoyed their walk, even though it was a little too hot for their longish hair. This is them, posing… well, sort of posing. That would be Weston on the left and Riley on the right.
This weeks theme for the hunt is Stripes. Usually I just include one photo and call it good, but this week I’m going to post a few photos I found that fit. Why? Well… because I couldn’t pick just one.
We went on a cruise and I loved this long row of lounge chairs. This was taken before the ship actually set sail which is why they’re empty. Normally they’d be pretty packed with peeps getting a tan, reading, relaxing, napping… you name it.
This is the little guy, Weston, with the Ref. He’s really not a huge toy guy. He loves to play chuck it, to have the ball thrown for him, to chew on his bully stix, and to be loved on. Strangely he loved this guy and chewed, pulled, and gnawed at him until all his stuffing was gone.
We went on a little road trip a year or so ago and this was taken while driving Hwy 101 from California, through the Redwoods, to Oregon. We hadn’t planned going this way, but were forced to as the Siskiyous were snowed in and I-5 was briefly closed. It ended up being a great drive, though it rained and rained and rained. We saw some cool elk, stood next to huge grand trees, and spent a lot of time cracking up by the little mister’s (Weston’s) expressions.
Here she is, the little girly, Riley. She’s looking cute and small here. Must have had a recent haircut. She’s due for another. I think she’s going to look pretty cute. But then, I always think she looks really cute.
Lastly… here’s one taken during our recent road trip down to San Jose to see family. That’s me, in the side view, taking the shot.

Brown Eyed Soul, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This is a photo I took of Weston when he was a little guy. He must have been about six months old. He’s now almost two, next month. I was thinking of Valentine’s Day and was thinking about what the look of love is… and this is it, in this little boys eyes. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone.
Weston Says… Are We Done Yet?, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
And we say back to him… Oh yes… yes we are little man! More walks for you!
Shadows and Light, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
I love this photo. I like the whole look of it, but it’s also got my three favorite things in it… Karen, Weston, and Riley. You have to look a little to see them, but they’re all there. This is probably my most favorite photo out of all the photos I’ve ever taken… ever.
Walking, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Here they are… at the end of their walk this morning. Riley looks a little pissed off, with her ears back and all. Weston looks a little bow legged. But they were both happy and tired. That’s what you want for your dogs. You want them to be happy and tired after a good walk.
Riding, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Loads of bicyclists use the Springwater Trail. Last year we did as well. We actually have what’s called a Tail Wagon (yeah… that’s really it’s name) we put Weston in. We haven’t tried it yet with both dogs, but Spring is coming, and the time for that is almost here. I think they’ll love it.
Sam Trak, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We went for a walk this morning, with the pups, along the Springwater Trail. It was a might chilly, what with the wind and all, but it was beautiful and on the way back to the car it warmed up enough that the little girl wasn’t shivering too bad.
The Springwater Trail is a system of trails, basically connected all together to cover a 40 mile loop, for walking, biking, etc. Click HERE for more info.
After our walk we ventured over to the Bridgeport Brewery in the Pearl to meet friends for some nosh and a beverage. It was a very good time. The pups didn’t mind waiting in the car too badly. After all, they had each other, and a big blanket in the back seat. Following dinner we moseyed over to Maggie’s place to help her hang some art and move some furniture. It was well worth it as her place is really just getting more and more homey all the time. We all, including the pups, feel so comfortable over there.
We ended our day out by driving home. It snowed this morning and as all of you who know where we live know, we’re in the hills. Yes, we still have snow at the house from earlier today. We also slid around on the road a little driving up here as there’s still a bit of snow on parts of the road. Ah… the joys of country living. Worth it much of the time. And the rest of the time… it’s an adventure.
Now… we’re gearing up to start the work week tomorrow. This is a sad week coming up as Karen has to fly down to California on business, Riley gets spayed, and… well… that’s it for the sadness.
Today was a good day…

Weston and Riley were not big fans of this section of the walk. Something about the surface under this little bridge type thing really freaked them out. Weston ended up making it, and Riley did most of it without being carried, but it was harrowing for them. Maybe it was the loud clacking sound it made when bicyclists rode by.
Weston Attempting to Blog, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Weston loves to get up on the desk when I’m trying to blog. He isn’t shy about demanding his attention.
