The Long Haul
Unpack my bags, I’m staying awhile.
There had been talk about the possibility of my leaving the hospital in the next couple of days. Initially my first oncologist told me I would be here a month or so…. Go through the first cycle, give my body time to recover from the cycle, make sure I’m safe while that happens because I basically have no immunity, etc. The second oncologist then started mentioning there was a possibility of my going home after this cycle. We had concerns. The precautions are so much and such we were concerned we would nor be able to meet my needs at home. As you can imagine it’s a tad scary. There was also a question, for us, of proximity to services should I have an issue (as in develop an infection and need services quickly to combat that infection…. IV antibiotics, etc). Karen, my little warrior, was not going to do this in any but the safest way for me.
This morning I had my daily chat with the oncologist and it was determined, given that she hadn’t known how far we live from services until this morning, that I will be staying in the hospital for another two or three weeks as my body recovers from this cycle of chemotherapy. At the end of that recovery, when my numbres come up a bit, I will have another bone marrow biopsy which will then determine what’s what. Then, depending, I may be able to go home for the other cycles. This first one and recovery is the most tricky.
