People usually want to see the detail of the dress, so here it is. Like I said… the dress was lovely. It was made by a Portland designer. Her shop in on 23rd and we all would recommend her highly. It was the perfect dress for Mary. She looked beautiful in it.
It wasn’t that tough getting Mary into her dress. It took a few people, but that was only because there were zips and ties and such which all were sort of going at the same time. Pretty fast though. Her dress was very classy. Loved/love it.
This photo obviously doesn’t do the dress justice. I love this shot though… Mary’s dress with Karen in the mirror behind.
There was a flurry of activity, as you would imagine, that day. Girls getting ready, but not really having to rush, which was nice. The boys arrived some time after the girls did, after having gone to breakfast and gotten ready themselves. They finished getting the coach house ready for the ceremony, which was great of them. It was beautiful by the time we went downstairs.
At this point we are, the girls that is, all at the Glessner House. This is the room they provided for the girls to get ready. It was perfect actually. Great size, loads of room, good light, mirrors, and private. You can see Mary putting a little makeup on Karen back in the corner. So cute.
One of a million pieces that go into getting married.
I said I would blog about the wedding and here we go….
The morning of we had all the bridesmaids, the bride, Karen and I, and Jay all in our condo. It was a full house, but totally fun. Jay wandered to get bagels (which to that point had been Martin’s job every other day or so) and as the girls got their dresses and bridesmaid accoutrement together we all managed to fit in a tad bite of breakfast… and coffee.
I just realized I’ve been so caught up in everything, and also I just finished uploading the 909 photographs I took at the wedding which was a long ass process, I haven’t posted anything about the wedding. This fact is more than lame… it’s inexcusable. So, without further ado…. I will post about the wedding this weekend and catch all ya’all up to date. It was one of the top three experiences of my life. The first two being meeting Karen and our own wedding. Just an incredible time in Chicago. Keep your eyes peeled and your ears ready… those posts are coming to a screen near you shortly.
I haven’t posted in ages. I’m lame. And exactly how many times have I said that after not posting for ages? Many.
So much in life has happened recently… Since Thanksgiving really. Thanksgiving with friends, then Karen’s illness and hospitalization, then her recovery, then our time in Chicago over the holidays which included Mary and Martin’s wedding, then back to work, then the fantastic news that we will be grandparents (yep…woo hoo!!! Mary and Martin are expecting a little bambino!! Yay!!!!) in September, and then my decision to… to… I can barely say it… quit my job so we can run off to England and be there, for a few weeks, before and after the little monkey’s birth and then over the holidays and then…. I don’t even know what comes then. It’s a lot to soak up. On one hand… more exciting than I can say. On the other hand… it’s a bit sad, and scary, and it’s more exciting than I can say. I’m leaving this life I’ve known with certainty and moving into a life where there is no certainty, other than the fact that I will be doing something I love completely (taking photographs and writing) and loving my family. I guess that’s an amazing gift. I don’t even really have to guess about it, it IS an amazing gift.
I like this one…
The second to last shot I took in Chicago. The only thing connected with Chicago to blog after this is… the wedding. Yes folks, there’s a whole lot more coming. Hope you enjoy looking/reading as much as I’m going to enjoy blogging about it. LOVED the whole experience of it.
Martin enjoyed a two olive martini.
The view from the 96th floor.
Jay looking out over Chicago from the 96th floor of the Hancock.
You can see the Sears Tower (now known as the Willis Tower) in the corner window. I love this shot for some reason. Love the blurry guy walking in front of the window on the right and the view past all the people in the lounge.
Just to show how big these two were I thought I’d include this photo of them with some unknown guy. Thanks unknown guy for providing perspective. You rock.
Karen and I clowning around at Pritzker.
The Jay Pritzker Pavilion. An amazing outdoor concert area designed by Frank Gehry. The metal “net” over the lawn is designed to be a sound system. There are speakers attached to it all over. The idea is that you get the same sound, sitting out there on the lawn, that you’d get from being in a great auditorium. Pretty cool.
We walked over part of Frank Gehry’s BP Bridge in Millennium Park. Pretty amazing looking and great views from it to the city.
We had to. After all, it’s us. What’s a trip without a foot shot or two.
Was a beautiful day for skating, though it was still very very cold out. These people didn’t seem to mind.
