Out Salmon fishing today. So far tons of fish caught around us but no luck yet on our boat. Fingers crossed.

Yes folks… we are back from camping, back from Maggie’s birthday party, and there has been progress on the addition. Progress as in the sheet rock is almost done and the windows are supposed to come today. After that… paint. After that… tile. After that… finishing plumbing and electrical. After that… or during all of that… finishing trim. Then… ta da…. bathroom complete. I will, I promise, post some in the next day or two. Loads going on today so it might end up being tomorrow. Took a couple of decent shots over in Central Oregon so I’ll get those up, plus some interesting anecdotes about the trip. Until then… have a great day out there ya’all!

A little closer in. She’s really lookin’ at me.

Riley can barely see over the bay window. She kept trying though. So darn cute.
Where’s Riley?, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The little girl likes to be up in the addition when Karen is up there. So cute. i took several pictures of her today. I have to post some of them.

Weston going a pretty good clip toward me. I’m sitting on the bricks of the raised bed where I was looking at the addition straight on before I turned toward the little man.
With Gutters, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The addition with gutters. No siding yet and no windows, but gutters. Every little bit makes it feel more like an actual room. Sheet rock to start tomorrow… it’s really getting cool now.

Looking from the bay into the bathroom. Walk in closet on the left that will have a pocket door. Shower on the right with the window in it. The red and blue “pipe” are the water lines. You can see one of the cadet heaters in the closet wall. There will be another over on the wall under the window to the backyard.
Let There Be Light, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
There are like 10 or 11 can lights or some such number in the addition. There will be loads of light. All the can lights in the bathroom itself and in the shower, two lights plus a light tunnel in the closet, and two sconces over the sink. We don’t mess around with our lighting. That doesn’t even include the huge bay window and the other two windows in the room.
Through The Window, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This is the view from the window by the new toilet. Kind of cool. The little building is our garden shed/storage room. It’s going to be painted the same color as the house at the same time the addition gets painted. Yellow, white trim.
View From The Future Tub, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This is the view from our new tub. Or, the view from what will be our new tub. Not bad….

I’ve heard through the grapevine that people are wanting to see recent photos of the addition. So without further ado… here are some recent photos of the addition.
We just got the insulation done and favorably inspected today (no photos of that… sorry). Tomorrow the sheet rock starts to go up. Next Tuesday… windows. Yes, it’s almost a room. Woo hoo.

After the whole Sundays Parkways event the three of us decided we needed a beverage to cool off. We once again jumped on our bikes and road down to Crush. I snapped this as we were sitting outside enjoying a cold one. Mine… Bottingtons. Karen’s… water. Maggie’s… uh, she never said… shhhhh…. secret.

People were really enjoying the sounds of Sneakin’ Out yesterday at Colonel Summers Park in SE Portland. These two were great. So much fun to watch. You could tell they were having an awesome time.
Mandolin, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Sneakin’ Out is a local Portland Band that’s fantastic. We enjoyed listening to them yesterday during the Sundays Parkways event in SE Portland. This is the mandolin player of the trio. He’s amazing. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard anyone play as fast as he can.
Bass, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This guy isn’t only talented, he’s incredibly entertaining. He loves playing music, loves what he does. He’s constantly movin’ and groovin’ to the sounds as they are playing. Really wonderful.
Percussion, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The Sneakin’ Out percussionist. He’s unbelievable. So talented. Plus, the guy plays a mean typewriter. I’m not even kidding. Check out the shot, at the left, in the middle of the frame. Yep… a typewriter.

After completing the Sundays Parkways circuit yesterday we rode back to the first park, Colonel Summers, to listen to a Portland band, Sneakin’ Out. We never miss an opportunity to see these guys if it’s possible to see them. They are, without question, of the most unique trios around… plus, they are damn good. These guys can play.

Gave my head a rest while hanging out at Colonel Summers Park.

Carolina Pump Station, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We spent yesterday enjoying the sites and sounds of the last Sundays Parkways event in Portland for the year.
The event goes like this… the city closes off a grid of streets in a neighborhood. Those streets go by parks in the neighborhood. People bicycle, walk, skateboard, roller blade, or whatever around the circuit, stopping at the various parks to enjoy food, booths, activities, and music. This particular parkways event was in SE Portland. Our friend Maggie happens to live not far from the route, so we ventured to her house, parked the truck, hauled out our bikes, and the three of us headed over. We had a great time. Met some other friends at the first park, Colonel Summers, and enjoyed a couple of bands while we were there. This photo is of Carolina Pump Station. They were pretty darn good. We also enjoyed a plate of barbecue (we all shared it) and some tasty cookies. Then the three of us donned our helmets, bid farewell to our other compadres, and hit the road to complete the circuit.
There could be others, and I’m sure if I sat here long enough I would think of other films I should’ve and would’ve included. I think when I make one of these lists that it’s all about the day I’m making it. Tomorrow the list would include some of these same films, but there would probably be differences. That’s the way it goes. That’s life. For now, today, these are some of my choices for the top films that always make me cry. Honorable mention would go to films like Piano, On Golden Pond, Old Yeller, Fried Green Tomatoes, and countless other films you might be thinking of right now.
Philadelphia
The humanity in this scene is sort of overwhelming. You have to ignore the crappy dubbing and the Greek subtitles, but it’s powerful none the less.
Beaches
Friends know each other for years, have their differences, lead disparate lives, stay bonded through everything, and love each other to the end.
Steel Magnolias
Nothing more heart wrenching than mother losing daughter. I distinctly remember seeing this and crying and laughing out loud and crying again.
Mystic River
Again… parent losing child. This is powerful.
Playing By Heart
This whole movie takes the watcher on a roller coaster of emotion. I cried a few times. This scene is just sort of indicative of what the movie is about. Not really a scene that made me cry. It’s got an amazing cast and is a great film, if you like emotional movies about love and relationships that is. If not, skip it.
Schindler’s List
This is one of, for me anyway, the most powerful scenes in film, ever. Schindler is leaving and he breaks down wishing he could’ve saved more, done more. It makes me cry just thinking about this scene. Spielberg is a master.
Ghost
Sort of a common choice, but good none the less. A classic tear jerker. The moment when they see each other and he gets peace.
Powder
Fighting and then giving over of yourself… if you haven’t seen this movie it is a powerful film about humanity. Just strange and amazing.
The Hours
I could’ve picked more than just two scenes from this movie. It’s another character study kind of film about choices and consequences and living with both.
E.T.
I had to include this… E.T. goes home.
Boys on the Side
Love… loss…
Immortal Beloved
I don’t know why this gets me so much, but it does. Partly it’s the music, partly watching him remember and knowing, finally, as an audience member, what the music was born out of.
Saving Private Ryan
This is the worst battle scene I’ve ever seen in film, for me. I started crying almost immediately and by the end I was a mess.
