Celebrating The Fourth, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The Fourth, Saturday, we worked outside at our place, again, and then headed in to Sandy’s to hang with some friends and celebrate the fourth in style. Nothing like a crab feast, some fine beverage, a good water fight, and excellent company. Life is truly grand. Thanks ladies for a stellar evening.
Evening on The Columbia, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Sun setting, Columbia River, Osprey… there’s nothing better than that.
Great Graffiti, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
A train passed as we walked along the river in Vancouver Friday night and I had to take a photo of it. Some of this art is so stellar. Gallery worthy. Amazing.
Where’s Sandy…, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
After dinner at McMenamins last Friday night the four of us walked along the river. There’s a great path that runs for several miles along the river an then in to Fort Vancouver. Along this path there are some nice sculptures. This is one of them. Can you find Sandy?
Eating Out, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Outside that is. The view from our table at McMenamins. It was so nice Friday night. A nice dinner out after we’d worked around the house, in the yard, all morning. We got tons of stuff done this weekend at our place. Very satisfying. Also very satisfying to play after you work. Oh, and the plans on the table… they are the plans for our bathroom addition. We took them along so Sandy and Vicki could check them out.
Out For A Walk, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Friday night, July 3, we met some friends (yo Sandy and Vicki) at the McMenamins on the Columbia over in Vancouver. It’s a great spot right on the river. We sat outside. It was grand.
Drunken Noodle, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
After our walk from the movie theater back to our car we headed to Typhoon. Karen’s choice of birthday restaurant. Our order… drunken noodles, of which this is fine example, yellow curry with beef, phad thai with chicken, spicy string beans, rice, and a thirst quenching thai iced tea. Uh… I think that’s all we ordered. bah ha ha ha!! Yes, we had leftovers. It’s one of the great things about going to Typhoon… we ALWAYS have left overs.

The back side of the Gerding Theater. Love this building. LOVE it.

The one and only, needs no other introduction… Powell’s City of Books.
Alder Street Food Carts, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Made famous on a season of the Amazing Race, here are the Alder Street Food Carts. You can get almost any kind of food, good to excellent, and cheap.
The link above actually takes you to the Portland Food Carts blog. Great blog about, well, food carts in Portland. Yeah, I know I’m a dork.
Getting The Shot, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
After the movie last Thursday, Karen’s birthday night out on the town, we decided to walk back to our car, through the city. It was lovely out, had cooled down a bit, and was perfect weather for walking. We walked, chatted, took photos. Really really nice.
Inside The Fox, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
From a stop at the cupcake confectionary (like that?) Karen got to choose where she wanted to go next. She decided on a movie as it was really warm out and doing something inside was appealing. We checked movie times and then hopped on the streetcar toward the Fox. It’s a fairly newish theater that shows primarily independent films. We’d never been there before. Used an ATM like ticket machine. Kinda cool. We saw the movie UP. I loved it. I think Karen liked it too, she just didn’t cry as much, or at all, as I did. What can I say… emotional.
Red Velvet, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Last Thursday was Karen’s birthday. Happy Birthday Karen. We took off work a couple hours early and headed downtown. First stop… Cupcake Jones. This is the cupcake she chose… Red Velvet. Why was I not surprised? LOL
Hay Fever, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Driving to work one day last week it was so gorgeous out. Really blue sky, a few clouds to offset the blue, and a recently hayed field. Haying was in full swing last week. I snapped this one with my phone as I drove past toward work. Love the smell of freshly cute hay.
I just realized I really haven’t posted anything of too much substance for a week or so. Guess I’d best get to it eh? I guess that’s what happens when a person is too busy livin’. Which is the case here. We have been working hard and playing hard as well. A good combo, except for how sore and tired I feel this Monday morning. No whining though… it’s all good. Even the soreness. We had a great weekend. More on that… soon.

The final score of the game. “Our” team was the home team. Yeah… we were psyched by the win.
Nothin’ But Net, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
To go back, rewind if you will, our lives the last week or so, I have to go back to last weekend. As in the 27th and 28th of June.
I already blogged about our fantastic bike ride downtown, complete with views of the bible and barq’s, on Friday night. Friday the 26th that is. However, I sort of left off there. Never getting into the basketball game we went to on Saturday. Hence, the photo here of the net, taken at the old high school in Oregon City. Yes Mary, we were haunting your old stomping ground. Your mom pointed out the pool you spent so much of your life in. It was cool to be there, to see where you went to school.
The funny thing was, Karen didn’t know there were other gyms in that building besides the big gym. So there we were, paying and standing by the doors in the big gym looking for my friend’s daughter, or Shawn, my friend. They are noticeable, and we didn’t notice them. We started wondering if we were even in the right building. I was texting her, she was looking for us, she said they were upstairs, we tried to go upstairs and the doors were locked. Finally, duh, we asked the woman at the ticket table. She said… no, they are in the OTHER gym. Other gym? What other gym? Needless to say we hot footed it over to the other side of the building, climbed the stairs to the second floor, and whalah! There was Shawn. The game hadn’t even started yet, which was a good thing.
Great game. It wasn’t even close really, as Shawn’s daughter’s team blew away the competition. We were like, before the game even started, thinking… it’s over. “Our” team was so much taller and bigger than theirs. They were quick, but they couldn’t make their shots, and “we” did. Fun to watch youngsters playing like that. Everyone out there for the love of the game. Really nice.
Oh, and Shawn… it was so great, as always, to see you. We should try getting together some time away from the court. If you were only going to Seaside this year instead of Orlando maybe that could happen, but I see how you are. Sure…. go somewhere totally more cool, and have a real vacation, instead of same old Seaside. Yeah… uh huh.
