The Gang’s Almost All Here… Almost

April 21, 2009 tokenhippygirl 2 comments

We had a terrific time on Sunday with our pals and all the pups. Thanks guys for a really nice time. Not to mention the after hike lunch at the St. Johns McMenamins Pub. Tasty. Nothing says healthy more than following up a physical fitness activity like enjoying a burger and a strawberry lemonade at the pub.

We ended the weekend with some weed pulling at the house. They have somehow taken over all of our flower beds. They must be thwarted. They must be vanquished. They must be… well… pulled. So we started that process in the big bed. And let me tell ya… it’s a process. But damn… our place is looking lovely right now. And again I’ll say… we are lucky. In so many ways.

As to the photo above… you can see Benny’s paw in the shot… we were only missing Weston and Riley’s and it would’ve been perfect.  Maybe next time?

Weston watching Benny demolish a stick. The big guy played really well with our little dude and dudette. They were friends all around.

Introducing our friend Sandy’s dog, Benny. He is a gentleman and a scholar. Seriously folks, this is one nice big guy.  He enjoys chasing after the sticks almost as much as he does eating them.  LOL

The Northwest is such a wondrously beautiful place. What else is there to say really… other than maybe… wow.

This was pretty cool. The roots of this tree were pretty exposed. Must have been some pretty high tides at times affecting the river. Made for some funky shots.

The View From Sauvie Island

This last Sunday we ventured out to Sauvie Island with some friends for a little hike along the beach. The dogs, ours and our friend’s, loved it. As did we. It was gorgeous out there. What a beautiful spot and a lovely day. Just about perfect. The only thing that might have made it better would’ve been if we’d thought ahead enough to pack a small barbecue and some food. We could have stayed there all day. At a certain point the dogs got to be off leash and it was as if they were sprung from prison or something. I’ve never seen such happy dogs. Running, playing, chasing, rolling around in the sand (after getting a little wet in the river of course)…. happy happy joy joy.

There was a fantastic view of Mt. St. Helens on Sunday.  Pretty clear.  Plus, there was quite a bit of water traffic out on the Columbia.  Made for some good photo ops.

The Ball

After the game we were invited over to Phil and Steph’s place to enjoy some fine pizza and beer.  It was great spending time with them, Nate, and the kids.  Nate said… it’s like family.   And yes… it is.  What a stellar group of people.  So lucky my mom picked such a great guy, who just happened to have this wonderful family.

The object of the game on Saturday. Actually, between you and me, I think the object was more about fun, good sportsmanship, mud puddles, and more fun.

Flies

Saturday… soccer game… warm… strange flies appearing out of no where to swarm around the wooden goal post. Luckily the kids were not shooting at this. They had temporary, and much smaller, goals to shoot at. If a person was wearing any bright colored shirt, mostly in the yellow family, these little buggers would not leave you alone. Luckily neither of us were wearing yellow, or anything in the yellow family. Luckily.

Here’s the handsome Weston, or as I seem to refer to him lately, bud… or even more accurately, fuzzy. He gets his hair cut next week. He’s going to be happy about it I think. He’s been a little too hot during all our running around. He’s loved it, the running around that is, but it’s been a little too warm for him what with all his fuzziness.

Riley and Weston got to come to the soccer game with us on Saturday. I think they had a splendid time. Riley is looking serious here, like she was really into all the soccer game action. Or, perhaps, she just wished she could be out there running around after the soccer ball.

Moving In For The Goal

Saturday, this last Saturday… to continue with the saga of the events in our lives this past weekend… we hauled over 1,000 pounds of rock. Not fun, but it’s looking better and better all the time at our place. The back patio area we’re trying to build is taking shape. Slowly taking shape. But, taking shape.

After hauling rock we grabbed the pups and headed to Laurelhurst Park to watch Maggie’s soccer game. These little kids are awesome, and of them Maggie is a rock star. So cute watching them all play. It’s kind of pee wee soccer. All the kids are really young and they have varying degrees of interest in the actual game. Maggie is very focused, and pretty darn good. As were a couple of the other players. It was cute though to watch them stop and jump in the big mud puddle.

This particular shot is Maggie getting ready to move toward the goal to score. And again I’ll say… she’s a rock star.
