Here it is… introducing… the table Karen built. She conceived of the plan, got the materials, and built what she’d imagined. Pretty damn good if you ask me. I love it.
Walking Around in the Pearl, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
On Saturday we had dinner at a great place called Silk in the Pearl. It was Maggie’s choice, being that it was Maggie’s birthday and all, and so she picked Vietnamese. This place was awesome. Not a bad dish in the bunch of what we ordered. Not a bad appetizer. Not a bad drink. It was fantastic actually and we will definitely be back there for some tasty grub.
After dinner we walked a couple of blocks and then hopped on the Portland Streetcar to go over to the concert venue. What a great way to get around town. No worries about having to park over by the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.
I took this shot as we walked from Silk to the streetcar stop. Just one of the condo buildings in the Pearl. They each have their own distinct personality. I liked the round windows at the corners in this one.

Well, you can barely see her, but she’s there. The concert was, as usual, excellent. No opener and three hours of non-stop good groovy music. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday night, that’s for sure.

Last weekend I took some flower shots (what’s new), we went out for dinner for Maggie’s birthday, we took in the Melissa Etheridge concert (it was rockin’ excellence), and Karen finished up building her table. She rocks. I’ll include some pictures of it here in a moment. I’m so proud of her. It’s WAY cool.

The theme for this week’s photo hunt is wrinkled. I took this one in April of this year. It’s a close up of my brother, he’s younger, 20 months younger, so that should tell you that I have more wrinkles than he does. I’m always taking strange photos. This one was taken as we waited with friends to get into a great breakfast place, called Gravy, on Mississippi Avenue. Their specialty is… yep, you guessed it, gravy. I think my bro looks good here. You can’t see all of him, but if you did you’d say he looked good too. He’s a stud. Notice the wrinkles are mostly smile lines. It’s a genetic thing… we all smile. All the time. It’s sickening.

To sum up the week to this point… Karen left for California. Business trip. I hate when she has to travel without me, but at least this was a short one. Fly out Monday, breakfast meeting Tuesday, meet all day, including through lunch, with clients, dinner meeting, get up Wednesday, breakfast meeting, meet with clients, go to the airport, fly home. Whew… how tiring. While she was gone what did I do you ask? I pouted. LOL OK, it wasnt’ that bad. I didn’t totally pout. I hung out with the little mister and Kev and watched the Olympics. I’m sad, I know, you don’t have to say it.
Now it’s Thursday and she’s home. Last night we had barbecued ribs. Yum. And we hung out and watched the Olympics… again. But, we were together, so that’s that. All that matters.
Tonight we’re going to dinner with our friend K. It’ll be good to see him. And it’ll be another night of Thai food. I think there’s a theme here. Either all of our friends know we love thai food and so select restaurants based on what they know we like, or perhaps we have these friends because they have the same great taste we do. LOL I must ponder this for awhile. Going off to ponder….
The Table, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Flashing back to Sunday…. Karen started building our adirondack table. This is it, in the beginning. You get the idea. It’s going to be very cool. I’m excited. She’s doing a fantastic job building it. She’s loving using our new compound miter saw, with stand. LOL I had to add the with stand part, it said that on the box.

Dinner at Stan and Connie’s Place, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Still reminiscing about Saturday… as I said earlier, after the laundry and saw assembly we cleaned up, a little, and headed over to Stan and Connie’s place for a lovely dinner with some friends (OK Jim, I’ll actually say your name and Pat’s so you don’t feel left out big guy… ). They have such a great place and always provide an excellent meal. The weather was perfect out on their deck, the view spectacular, and the company was, as always, outstanding. Thanks guys.

The New Saw, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Saturday morning and afternoon we did a bit of shopping… bully stix for the boy, a new compound miter saw, some new dress shoes for Karen so she had something for the business trip, and some other various things I can’t remember right now. Must have been small, or sort of inconsequential compared to the saw and shoes. Anyway… we got the goods and then headed home so Karen could put the saw together. I stayed out of it. We’ve learned there are some tasks we do very differently and shouldn’t do together. It works for us that way. So she put the saw together and I did dishes and some laundry. Team work in action. Afterward we went off to Stan and Connie’s place for drinks and dinner.
Birthday Thai, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
Wow… It’s been nearly a week since I’ve posted. What’s wrong with me? I saw that today and said to myself… self… we have to do something about this sad and pitiful fact. So… I’m posting. Let’s rewind a few days back to last Thursday, August 14, when we took our friend LL out for dinner. It was her birthday, happy birthday LL! She picked the restaurant and we found ourselves at Mai Thai, on Belmont. Nice place. Pretty good food too. Great company.
Orange, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
The theme for this week’s hunt is colorful. I was perusing some of the flower pictures I’ve taken and came across this one, a particular favorite of mine. I love the bright orange and green in this. I like it so much in fact that I just made it my header photo. And, a little confession, I posted this already… as my July 25 photo on my photoblog, image – ination.

This is a list, off the top of my head, of 10 totally cheesy (for one reason or another) movies I completely love. It’s great mindless entertainment watching these and I never, repeat, never, get tired of them. You might shake your head at me, wondering about my sanity in picking these gems, but really… I dare YOU not to like them. You don’t have to say it out loud either. You can keep the fact that you like them too to yourself. It’s OK. But, you like them. I know it. And, even if you don’t, watch and make fun. That’s part of the joy of watching these films anyway. The temperatures are going up, so… grab some popcorn, turn up the air conditioning, throw one of these bad boys in, and prepare to be entertained! Say cheese….
I don’t know what it is about this movie, but I love it. Whenever this is on, I’ll watch it. Very cheesy, but so good.
I’ve watched this so much I can quote most of the dialogue. It’s such a great, funny, feel good kind of movie. “Worms Roxanne, worms!”
This one is so silly it gets me. I laugh through the whole thing. “With you, never a quickie, always a longie.” LOL How can you not laugh?
I think, with this one, it’s his little dancing around thing he does in this movie. This has never gotten anything close to good ratings, but you know, who cares about ratings. To me this is pure cheese ball entertainment.
Mel Brooks at his cool kooky-est. This movie, for anyone who likes Hitchcock films, which I happen to love, is a must see. Too funny.
Probably my favorite movie of all time. Love, action, silliness, good acting, and loads of cheese… all in one film. You might have to watch this one twice.
Women power, storytelling inside the movie, Jessica Tandy, Kathy Bates, and some good writing, once again.
How can you not like this movie? I’ve seen it probably a hundred times and I still watch it every chance I get.
One of those great 80′s movies that, for some reason, I totally love. Maybe it’s because I have a spot in my heart for soft shoe. Nah, it’s probably just because Jason Robards is in it.
“I want the knife. GIve me the knife. Pllleeeeeaaaasse.” I might have gotten some of that wrong, but it’s the gist of it. This one is so completely corny, and not all that well done, but who cares. I love the little kid in this.
Bonus round….
I was compiling the list just now and then remembered, when I got all done with it, that I love this movie. Probably one of the cheesiest vampire films of all time, but so totally cool. How can you not love Jason Patric’s angst or the over the top acting of who turns out to be the head vampire. Oh yeah, and Kiefer Sutherland is in it.
And lastly, yet another great movie I forgot to add to the list, hence the addition of this just added bonus feature. Samuel L. Jackson and Geena Davis have some great exchanges in this movie. They keep me laughing. Nothing like the whole, “I’m not talking about the linen”, exchange… it’s funny, and terrific.
Wanted: Rabbit Killer, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
He looks sweet doesn’t he? Innocent even. Well, sometimes looks can be deceiving. He’s a rabbit killer, and I’m not even lying.
The story goes like this:
Cut to yesterday afternoon. I came home and found Karen out on the chaise with her laptop and the phone, working. Yeah, it’s tough, I know. Weston was laying quietly next to her, occasionally running off to chase a chipmunk or bug or flying piece of dust and then returning to lay down on the chaise. He’s just that kind of guy. I said my hellos then walked into the house to put down my gear and then into the office to check my e-mail. This is what happened next…
K: Hey! T!! Hurry!! Come out here!!! Hey! T!!!
Me: Run outside to see what all the ruckus is about, look at her… and hear…
K: He has a rabbit, he killed a rabbit, I think he killed it, I don’t know if it’s dead! He has a rabbit!! NO!! Weston!!! Put that down! Drop it! Drop it!!!
Me: Holy crap! He has a rabbit!! WESTON! Drop it!! NO!
Weston: Drops the rabbit but stands there next to it giving us the look that says… don’t touch it, or me. It’s mine. Look what I did? Aren’t I the greatest?
K: Is it dead? I don’t know if it’s dead. I think it’s still alive.
Me: I think it’s dead. It’s dead. WATCH OUT! He’s trying to grab it again. WESTON! Drop it! Drop it! No! How did this happen? Did you see him get it?
K: WESTON! Bad Boy!! Drop it!! We need to get it away from him. He’s going to be mad. He could try to bite. I heard sounds like from a bird. I thought he had a bird. At first I thought it was just a bird screeching. Then I looked over and he had the rabbit in his mouth. WESTON! NO!
Me: WESTON!! He won’t want to give it up… as I run over to the deck, grab the nearby fly swatter, and then return, advancing on the little man. Get something to grab it, I’ll try to keep him away from it. I get there and use the fly swatter to keep him at bay. He isn’t happy.
K: Leaves, and then returns, running, with a towel that she throws over the rabbit.
Me: What are you doing? That won’t work. He still knows it’s there.
K: It was the first thing I found, I’m going to pick it up and get rid of it. Is it still alive? Try to keep him away from it.
Me: I am trying to keep him away from it. Be careful. I don’t think it’s alive. It’s not breathing.
K: Reaches down to get it and Weston goes postal on her. Snarling and biting at her foot. He just bit me! He bit my foot! It’s not bad, he didn’t bite hard, but he bit me!
Me: Swatting Weston on the butt with the fly swatter… NO!! BAD BOY!! NO BITE!! BAD BOY!!
Weston: Looks at us like we’re insane and then looks back at the rabbit with an IT’S MINE, ALL MINE, expression.
Me: Go grab something to pick it up with. Like tongs or something.
K: Runs off toward the shed and brings back a shovel. She starts trying to scoop it up and can’t quite get it.
Me: That’s the same problem I had with the gopher, I couldn’t quite get under it.
Weston: Agitated, he tries to lunge at the rabbit to grab it.
Me: Trying to hold him back with a very lame fly swatter.
K: One last scoop and… I got it! I’m going to throw it over the side.
Me: Don’t let him see you. Here, let me distract him. I grab one of his squeaky balls and throw it. He runs a little ways after the ball and I yell… GO! GO! Do it now! I turn around and K is still standing there with the shovel. She’s quite a ways away from me at this point. What are you doing? I said, GO! GO!
K: I thought you were talking to Weston. So he would go after the ball.
Me: No, I was talking to you. Here, I’ll do it again and tell you when.
K: OK
Me: Throwing the ball away from K, Weston runs after it, and… NOW! THROW IT! I hear the sound of her flinging it over the side as it hits some tree branches going out over the burn pile and down the hill. I look back and K is walking toward me. Did it go far? Way over the side?
K: Oh yeah, it did. She chuckles. I think it might be in Doug’s driveway. (Doug’s driveway is actually a driveway to Doug’s land that’s next to our property. He doesn’t live there. It’s a dirt road with a chain across it… before you go and think it’s like a paved and manicured driveway.)
Me: It’s way over there then. Good. He won’t be able to find it.
K: I don’t think it’s really in his driveway, but it’s way down there.
Me: Good. I sit down on the steps to the deck and shake my head. I can’t believe he killed a rabbit. I can’t believe it. That was traumatizing.
K: It was. Where’s the rabbit killer?
Me: He’s over there.
Weston: Trots over to me as if to say, wow, wasn’t that great. Look what I did!! Aren’t you proud?
K: He must have been fast to be able to catch that thing. It’s been taunting him for days, hopping out to the middle of the back yard and then running into the bushes when he comes out.
Me: He’s quick. Wow… he killed a rabbit. He was probably trying to play with it and accidentally killed it. It didn’t even look like it had a scratch on it. I reach down and start petting Weston, who’s leaning against me and looking all cute and innocent. Not looking, at all, like the rabbit killer he now is.

Yeah, another flower shot. I love taking them, it’s obvious.
We had a great weekend actually. Got some yard work done at our rental property, bought some supplies so Karen can make an adirondack table to go with the chairs on our front deck, watched a ton of Olympics coverage (that whole men’s 4 X 100 relay… wow… we were high fiving each other and screaming like mad), played with Weston a bit, and just enjoyed hanging out at our place. Nice.

Our front deck. It’s lovely this time of year and very inviting. The new umbrella helps with the sun, which always blasts the deck in the late afternoon, making it incredibly hot out there… if it’s not cloudy that is.
Not Quite Ripe, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
We’re going to have loads of tomatoes. Everything takes a little longer to come on at our place. I think it’s our elevation, though who can know for sure. I can’t wait until these babies are ready. Here come the tomato and mozzarella sandwiches. Yum!

Ah, Victory!, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
As you can see, my brother, K, has the chuck it in his hand and Weston has just returned from running after the ball that was thrown with the chuck it. He’s a happy guy…. uh, Weston that is, though K is probably happy too. It’s pretty fun playing with our little man, he’s got tons of personality.
Let’s Play, originally uploaded by Tokenhippygirl.
This is Weston’s favorite ball, at the moment. It changes, sometime daily. But more often than not, this is the one he wants us to throw. It’s the ball that came with the chuck it. He loves the chuck it.
