Working our way forward… on Sunday, after we got back from the beach, we went to the Sah-Hah-Lee 3 par golf course out toward Estacada and shot 9 holes. Martin kicked our butts, though Mary wasn’t too far behind. Poor Karen and I brought up the rear. But hey, we had a great time. It’s pretty out there and the course was nice. What more can you ask. Other than, perhaps, to find your ball after it’s landed in the water hazard.

This baby was ready for roasting…. and we did. The best comment of the evening… Mary, who hasn’t been able to roast a marshmallow in a year (she lives in England where the marshmallows are apparently sub par), saying to her first nicely roasted specimen, “come to me my beauty”. It was a good moment.

Last Friday, the fourth of July, we were at the beach in the oceanside town of Lincoln City, Oregon. That evening we ventured down to the beach (even though it was drizzling a bit ), built a fire, roasted hot dogs, made s’mores, and lit up some sparklers. We questioned Martin about joining in the celebration of our freedom from the Brits, since, you know, he’s British and all… he didn’t really seem to mind. I think he was having too much fun enjoying the campfire and looking at the fireworks to really question his loyalties.

We took a little jaunt to the historic old bay front in Newport, Oregon. The bay front is actually still a working fishing port. For a time, besides wandering the shops, we walked on the docks looking at all the various fishing boats. Some of them were pretty cool. It’s fascinating to think of a life working at sea.

Weston loves the beach… soft sand, lots to sniff, and freedom to run. He was on his lead in this photo, but actually got to be off it a few times to which he said woo whoooo. And yeah, I’m sure that’s what he said….

We spent last Thursday through Sunday morning in Lincoln City, Oregon at the Ester Lee Motel just hanging out, walking on the beach, playing poker, watching the Harry Potter marathon, and enjoying the fourth of July fireworks displays. We also, to give ourselves credit for actually celebrating the fourth, did our own little bit of sparkler waving and built a fire on the beach (even though it drizzled part of the time) complete with weenie roasting and s’more makin’. We had a really good four days over there.
In keeping with the spirit of what I usually do on this blog o’ mine I will post several photos taken during our time in Lincoln City and Newport, which we visited. This one was taken the first day, in Lincoln City, on our first walk down to the beach from our motel room. I liked the look of it. It’s a weed, but really cool and lovely.

As we wandered the Portland Rose Garden last Wednesday we came upon these guys practicing some traditional celticish type dance. Not really sure what they were doing, other than swinging scarves around while dancing with bells attached onto their calves. Martin said he thought it was some sort of traditional Irish or Scottish thing. We’ll go with that…
