Oranges

The sign said, “tree ripened oranges”. I wonder, how else would they ripen. FrankenOrange? Scary.
We drove, and drove, and uh… drove some more over the rivers (they were all dried up), through the woods (no leaves, except for the orange and olive trees), to Dan and Linda’s house we came.
First… there’s not much in Eastern California except for windmills, which were actually very cool, oranges, grape vines, and lots of blown trash. We would’ve made pretty good time today other than the traffic we ran into first on HWY 58 and then on I-15 into Vegas. It seemed as though everyone and their dogs were hitting sin city for the holiday.
There were several points of interest along the way, most of which we didn’t find interesting enough to stop and see. The most hilarious of which was the tallest mini market in the world. We don’t actually know if it was, as advertised, the tallest mini market or even if it was a mini market, as we couldn’t see it from the road and as I said, we didn’t stop. We did see an airplane graveyard in the town of Mojave, though we didn’t get close enough to take any pictures. The only pictures we took in Mojave were at a gas station and of some windmills and a hillside nearby.
We reached the outskirts of Vegas from the East, coming to a huge casino that had point in the title. I can’t remember what it was. The only thing I remember about the place was the astro turf lawn around the edge of the parking lot. I remember this because Weston had to go and that was the closest place to pull off the freeway. We stopped thinking we’d find grass for the little guy and only found astro turf. He was able to pee on a tree, which was real, but couldn’t bring himself to do anything else.
Now here we sit at Dan and Linda’s place. They are all in bed after hanging out with us over a nice barbecued steak dinner. Nice. It’ll be good to hang out for a few days with them and to be in one place for awhile. Weston can make friends with Sadie, the dog of the house, and maybe get used to a place enough that he doesn’t feel the need to bark protectively at every little sound he hears in the middle of the night. His mom’s would really like that as well.
