These are amazing… they keep blooming and blooming, not ready to give in to the approach of colder weather.

The trees are changing color, leaves are starting to drop, and the last blooms of some of the flowers are hanging on for dear life.

When one of us is outside and he’s not allowed to go out, he has to keep watch.

Today we decided we needed to button up the house for fall and the winter that seems to be approaching rapidly. We cleaned up outside, put all the outside furniture away, and then set about doing various tasks in and outside of the house. We got a lot done. A sort of fall cleaning. While all the activity was happening around here, Weston decided to take a nap. I think he had the right idea.

Here’s a shot of one of Annie & Charlie’s babies. They were, as you can tell by this photo, very very cute.

Yesterday we ventured over to Sean and Hayden’s place for a great lunch, home made pumpkin soup and panini sandwiches, and some play time for Weston with Charlie, Annie, and 4 of their babies. We had a great time guys, and I think Weston did too, after he got over the shock of being around that many dogs at once. You two are wonderful.

This is the bed we bought for Weston when he was just a wee pup. Apparently he still likes it as he sometimes chooses to sleep in it instead of on the larger fluffy dog bed we got for him. It’s amazing how small he can curl himself up.
This last weekend, while Karen and I were driving over to the beach, we listened to the new Melissa Etheridge CD, The Awakening. In one word… inspiring.
We drove along, listening, and after each song we talked about it… the message, the depth, the musicality, her voice. I was inspired. This is a woman who has something to say, who knows who she is, and who gets what life is really about.
I started thinking about what that means… getting life. To me I guess it means seeing in. I picture it as either skipping rocks on the pond, or stepping into it and exploring. You’re either in it, or you’re looking. You either jump in gleefully with both feet, not always knowing what’s in there, but you do it anyway… or you stand on the shore, looking out… wondering and afraid. Believe me, stepping in isn’t always easy… but when you do, when you are afraid but go in anyway, you conquer fear.
As for me, I ‘d rather be in it. I’d rather be splashing around, sometimes making a mess, than not. Life is what we make it. What an enormous power, a tremendous responsibility, and how beautiful.
My answer to all of this, what it all means to me, is this… love deeply, speak your personal truth, look up at the moving clouds, hug the people you care for as often as possible, live honestly, listen to all types of music, walk barefoot outside in the rain, tell the people you love that you love them every chance you get, taste new foods, notice the light and the changing of the day, appreciate what you have, do things that scare you, see as much of the world as you can, talk to strangers, look people in the eye and smile when you do it, read a variety of books, don’t take yourself too seriously, laugh all the time, work in the dirt with your hands, don’t be afraid to cry, do things that are silly, make art, close your eyes and feel the sun on you, breathe deeply, dance, and see… see into life. Dip your toe, or better yet… dive. Be in it.

These guys were very vocal. In fact, between these and the sea lions hanging out on the nearby rocks, Weston about fainted. He was not at all into the sounds they were making.

A great little motel to stay in. We loved it. Clean, quiet, and plenty of room. Plus, they allow dogs, which made Weston very happy as well.

We just had two really great days at the beach. Lincoln City and Newport to be exact. I tell ya, there’s nothing like taking the short drive over, staying at a nice little motel, and relaxing with my sweetie. And, of course, with Weston.
I love being with my little family. We work. The little unit that is us. You know what I mean? We just work. It’s like all the cells in my body relax when we’re together. It’s sometimes almost an audible sound, from deep inside me. I’m sure at the moment I walk into Karen’s presence, I breathe in deeply, then out again, clearing out the day, and taking in the all of just being with her. My body naturally reacting and saying to me, ah, you’ve come home. Life is good.
We had such a great time… walks on the beach watching the water, the clouds moving, and Weston scampering about like a mad man seeking all the fun sand has to offer. We watched movies, read a little, and held hands while looking out the window at the tiny bit of a squall that passed through. We drank chai, walked around on the docks on the bay front in Newport, and laughed as Weston tried to make friends with every person and dog he met. We loved our time and enjoyed being together, sharing every moment.
My advice, not that anyone asked… take off, spend a day or two together. Get away and play. It does a body, a mind, and a soul very very good. All you need… all anyone needs… is a couple of days at the beach.
