Today, with no real plan in mind, we ended up over by the Kennedy Space Center and Merritt Island. We didn’t feel like touring the space center, so after driving by it with some glances to the rocket graveyard, we grabbed some lunch on the Cocoa Beach Pier and then headed to the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge. The refuge covers approximately 140,000 acres and is owned by NASA. It’s been a wildlife refuge since 1963. You can check out the website by clicking on the link above.
All I have to say is this… it was the best two and half or three hours we’ve spent so far on this trip. No offense to Walt, but the experience today was far more enjoyable than touring around the Magic Kingdom. We both finally feel we’ve seen the beautiful side of Florida, past all the kitchy shops, and resort hotels. There are parts of this state that have gone untouched, and that Florida, the one we saw today, is absolutely breath taking.
