I was looking around on the internet today, as can happen sometimes when a person has time on their hands and a working thumb or finger to keep pressing the laptop pad. When you do that you don’t always know, or have a plan for, where you’re going to end up. It’s like a little adventure. Intrigue and excitement waiting around every corner, with every press of that button. Today, ladies and gents, I happened upon a site, don’t ask me how I got there, for the New 7 Wonders of the World.
You see, there’s a non-profit organization in Switzerland who’s picking, with the help of millions of online voters, the new wonders. Only one, from what are now referred to as the ancient 7 wonders of the world, is still on the list of possibles. That long lasting lone hold out… the pyramids of Giza. They are the only structures still standing of those original ancient wonders picked 2200 years ago.
As can happen when a person has that extra time I was talking about, I looked around in the site for quite some time. And yes, I ended up voting for what I thought the new 7 wonders should be. My vote: Acropolis, Angkor, Chichen Itza, Easter Island Statues, Great Wall, Pyramids of Giza, and Stonehenge. There are 21 finalists, narrowed down to that number from over 200 original entries. And, on July 7, 2007 in Lisbon, Portugal, the new 7 wonders will be announced. Kinda cool.
If you have some time on your hands, like I happened to today, and want to learn a little something about amazing architecture, check out the site via the link above. If nothing else you’ll come away with a sense of awe and a better appreciation for the beauty man is capable of creating.
